Heck yea interview experience
Is this the right job for me?
If you’re in an interview loop, at some point you might get an email with a prompt for an exercise. Depending on the role, this could be putting together some data model, market analysis or a product doc.
What’s your initial reaction to this? Is it looking at your calendar to see when you can get to it over the weekend? Or is it to start jumping in, researching stuff, and chipping away at the exercise.
If you think about a product or service you love, you probably will remember the first time using it and feeling a “heck yea” this is awesome. You'll be anxious (in a good way) to want to use it again. For frequent travelers TSA Pre-Check or Global Entry might be a good example. On the other hand, a counter-example might be a pair of new shoes you thought were awesome, sit in the closet and probably should have returned, but now you feel like you have to wear them. They aren’t the “heck yea” shoes you thought they were.
In any case, check to see if you have the “heck yea” feeling to dive into the interview process. If you don't, it’s likely the job will pay the bills but you’re not going to be excited about it 6 months after you start.
